Reservoir Loops and Valley Streets: Dog Care in Lafayette
Lafayette dogs are walkers. Lafayette Reservoir has a paved lakeside nature trail and a longer dirt rim trail, with leashes required and no swimming in the lake. Above Acalanes High School, the Lafayette Ridge route heads into Briones Regional Park, where some trails allow off-leash dogs away from the trailheads. Burton Valley is mostly flat, with neighbors out walking dogs every day, while Reliez Valley feels rural and has gated communities that border Briones.
Dirt trails, dry grass and open hills leave seeds, dust and tangles in a coat. I brush and comb through the whole dog, wash with warm water, dry carefully, and trim the paws and the hair around the ears where debris collects. Everything is done in the van outside your home, one small dog at a time, so you do not have to drive anywhere or sit in a waiting room.
