Hill Country Dogs and the Fog-to-Heat Swing in Moraga
Moraga mornings often begin with fog that lifts by late morning or early afternoon, and by summer the town still sees about 26 days a year at 90 degrees or higher. The Lafayette-Moraga Regional Trail, an old railway corridor, is the go-to route for dog walkers, and the surrounding hills hold dry grass, brush and eucalyptus. Rain falls mostly in winter, so long dry stretches are normal. Dogs in Rheem, around the Hacienda de las Flores and near Moraga Country Club all live a short walk from that open ground.
Those swings are tough on a small dog's coat. Damp fog mornings can leave fur clumped, while hot afternoons make heavy undercoat miserable and dry grass sheds seeds into the fur. During a van visit I wash and dry your dog, brush out the undercoat, trim feet and ears, and clip nails. Everything happens at your curb in warm water, so a hillside driveway never turns into a muddy bath.
